About PingLocate

Location, by request.

PingLocate is a small, independent project. It exists for one reason: to make a location request that runs entirely on consent, works in a browser, and says plainly what it can and cannot do.

Search “track a phone by number” and you will find page after page promising a person’s live location the instant you type their number, with no action from them. That promise cannot be kept. A phone number does not contain a location. It is a routing label: a country code, a national destination code, and a subscriber number. No website can turn that into a live GPS point, because there is nothing to turn.

The gap between what a number can yield and what those pages promise is where they do their work. Everything here follows one rule instead: show what a request can actually return, and say plainly what it cannot.

What PingLocate does

You enter a phone number. PingLocate sends the person a text with a link. If they open it and agree, their location comes back with its accuracy range. If they decline, you get nothing.

That is the whole product. There is no app, no account, and no way to skip the other person’s choice. We do not pretend otherwise, because a location cannot be read from a number, and a request is the only path to a real result.

Why we lead with the limits

Every honest product has limits, and ours are easy to state: results depend on the other person acting, accuracy depends on their GPS, and a number alone gives you nothing. Saying those parts out loud is what makes a location result mean anything.

That is the trade we would rather make. A person who trusts the result comes back, and a person who was promised something impossible does not.

Why it is free

PingLocate is free to use. It carries no display advertising and no affiliate links today, and we do not sell your personal or location data. We do not charge for the core request.

PingLocate is written and run by Alex Morin, who wrote these guides after working through what a phone number can actually yield and how a consent-based location request works end to end.
